Katherine Hopper
Science Instructor
Katherine Hopper holds a Master’s degree in Science Education from Georgia State University. During her undergraduate career, she earned dual degrees in General Science and Textile Enterprise Management from Spelman College and Georgia Institute of Technology respectfully. During college, she interned at NASA Ames Research Center, Southern Mills, and Aydin Orme Textile Manufacturing Company in Istanbul, Turkey.
Following graduation, Katherine spent 15 years in the DeKalb County School District during which she taught 6th and 8th Grade Gifted Science, Biology, and Environmental Science. During her time as a middle school teacher, Katherine participated in Emory University’s PRISM Problem-Based Learning Program before she spent three years as an Instructional Specialist at Fernbank Science Center.
After retiring from the DeKalb County School District, Katherine began tutoring science in the Trio SSS STEM Program at Atlanta Metropolitan State College.
Seeking to continue her love of working with K-12 students, Katherine has joined the team at Academics Plus. Katherine has a special interest in incorporating hands-on-science investigations and researched based teaching pedagogy to facilitate student learning and promote student success.
Outside of work, Katherine enjoys traveling and volunteering.
